IDEAL – Innovative Digital Language Learning
Room for innovative, interactive language learning programs for specialized languages
Language and understanding communication form the foundation for trust and safety in caregiving (nursing). However, caregivers who come to Austria from other countries often lack the necessary language skills. The IDEAL project addressed this issue and assisted individuals who work (or want to work) in the German-speaking caregiving(nursing) sector with situation-specific specialized vocabulary. In the process, German language skills were effectively improved through innovative, interactive online learning materials. This allows people from different backgrounds to quickly and reliably adapt to new working environments.

Project contents
During the project period from 05/2022 to 04/2024, we worked in collaboration with four project partners from four different countries to develop
- an online language learning platform with videos and interactive elements
- a digital glossary with 1,500 German words from the healthcare sector
- a handbook for teachers and learners on the effective use of the project materials
Target group
The IDEAL project was aimed at (prospective) caregivers with a non-German mother tongue, as well as those individuals who support them in their professional journey through teaching.
